The Sunday Afternoon Tailback: Nuggets from Saturday, Oct. 10…

Saturday’s record: 7-1; for the season: 26-9.

The Top 25 Shakeup (This week):  If it were golf, Saturday would’ve been “moving day.”  Lots of changes in the Top 25 this week.  Here’s the link:  http://collegefootball.ap.org/poll

The Image Of The Day/Jerry Butler "Only The Strong Survive" Award goes to…Who else?  Texas head coach Charlie Strong.  Was there a more joyous image Saturday afternoon than when the jubilant Longhorns hoisted their besieged, yet Red River Rivalry-winning leader above their heads just after UT’s upset of OU?  If there was, I didn’t see it.

The Cormac McCarthy "No Country for Old Men" Award goes to...Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder, who saw his Wildcats jump out to a 35-17 halftime lead in the Little Apple. Then, TCU’s Trevone Boykin and the Frogs scored 35 in the 2nd half, while the TCU D held the ‘Cats to 10.  Boykin built up his Heiman-hopeful resume by completing 20 of 30 for 301 and 2 TDs, and running 11 times for 124 and 2 TDs.

The Warner Wolf Award goes to…Div. III Lindenwood.  If you had the Lions and 68, you lost!  NW Missouri St. 69, Lindenwood 0.

You took the “Over,” right???, 1st Place:   Div. III’s Albion and Kalamazoo lit it up for 112.  Final Albion 72, Kalamazoo 40. 1,209 yards of offense.  Wait!  It could’ve been more!  The teams combined for 11 punts!

You took the “Over,” right???,  2nd Place:  Bowling Green and UMass combined for 100.  Final:  Bowling Green 62, UMass 38.

You took the “Under,” right???   Final: Wake Forest 3, Boston College 0.  18 punts in the game.

700 and counting.  Paul Morrison, known as “Mr. Drake,” attended his 700th Drake Bulldogs game on Saturday.  The 98-year-old is a Drake alum, a WW II Army vet and served many years as the Bulldogs’ SID.  Drake beat Valpo 34-7.

Looking ahead to next weekend… #1 Ohio St. hosts Penn St.; #2 Baylor hosts W. Va.; #3 TCU @ Iowa St.; #4 Utah hosts Az. St.; #5 Clemson hosts Boston College; #6 LSU hosts #8 Florida; #7 Michigan St. @ #12 Michigan and #9 Texas A&M hosts #10 Alabama.

Tune in Thursday night for next Saturday's picks.
