Nuggets from Saturday, Oct. 24…


Saturday’s record: 7-1; for the season: 40-12.

A stillness in Stillwater.  It is a sad Sunday in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  Three adults and a four-year-old child are dead, dozens are hurt, some critically, after a 25-year-old woman plowed her car into a crowd watching the OSU homecoming parade on Saturday. The driver has been arrested on DUI charges and blood tests for possible alcohol and drugs are pending.

Dynasty.  Mount Union (Alliance, Ohio) beat Wilmington (Ohio) 69-0 on Saturday and won its 100th consecutive regular season game.  The streak goes back to 2005.  Even more amazing, the Purple Raiders are 210-1 over the last 211, dating back to 1994!

The Yogi Berra “It ain’t over until it’s over Award” goes to…Ga. Tech.  “Kick Six,” the 2015 edition.  Yellow Jacket soph Lance Austin picked up the ball after a blocked field goal on the last play of the game and raced 78 yards for a TD as Tech upset #9 Florida State 22-16.

The 2nd place Yogi Berra “It ain’t over until it’s over Award” goes to….  Arkansas and Duke.  The Hogs and the Blue Devils both went to four OTs before winning against Auburn and Va. Tech, respectively.

Upsets of the Weekend:  Ga Tech beat Florida State. (see above) and USC defeated Utah.

The Heisman Watch:  LSU star running back Leonard Fournette gave his already impressive resume another boost with a 26 for 150 and one TD rushing day.  He also caught a pass for 2 yards as the Tigers beat Western Ky.  TCU QB Trevone Boykin and the Frogs were idle.  The Buckeyes’ Zeke Elliott ran 19 times for 142 and 2 TDs against Rutgers.

The Warner Wolf Award goes toWagner (NY).  If you had the Seahawks and 63, you lost. Final: BYU 70, Wagner 6.

You took the “Over,” right???, 1st Place:  In the FBS, Arkansas and Auburn scored a combined 100, as the Hogs beat the Tigers 54-46 in 4 OTs.

You took the “Over,” right???,  2nd Place:  In the FCS, Bethune-Cookman and Norfolk State combined for 108.  Final:  B.C. 59, Norfolk St. 49.

You took the “Over,” right???, 3rd  Place:   In Div. II, a combined score of 110, as Notre Dame (Ohio) beat West Liberty 59-51.

You took the “Under,” right?”  13 points.  Vandy 10, Missouri 3.  The Tigers have not scored a TD in their last two games.
