The Sunday Afternoon Tailback: Nuggets from Saturday, Oct. 17…Who'd a thunk it???

Saturday’s record: 7-2; for the season: 33-11.

The Top 25 Shakeup (This week):  The latest AP Top 25 is out:  http://collegefootball.ap.org/poll/2015/8
Okay.  Let’s be honest with ourselves.  Who among us had Memphis, Toledo, Cal, Houston, Temple, Duke and Pitt in the Top 25 at the halfway point in the season???

The Yogi Berra “It ain’t over until it’s over Award” goes to…Michigan State.  Just when you thought the Ole Miss miracle pass-catch-and-run-for a-TD in T-Town couldn’t be topped, the fumble (by the Michigan punter) picked up and run in for a M. State TD with :10 left to play against the Wolverines was this week’s shock-and-awe moment.  It was best summed up by Sparty HC Mark Dantonio, post-game: "It's because things like this happen. Every now and then, they happen."  And, that’s why Mich. St. remains undefeated.

The 2nd Place Yogi Berra “It ain’t over until it’s over Award” goes to…Harding (Arkansas) 63, SE OK 60.  Four OTs!.

Upset of the Weekend:  Memphis beat Ole Miss 37-24.  The last time the Tigers beat a ranked opponent, LBJ was President and Elvis’ movie “Paradise, Hawaiian Style,” was in theaters.

The Mad Hatter does it again.  In Baton Rouge, with 10:40 remaining and having given up a 14-point lead, Head Grass-eater Les Miles and Company fake a field goal with the holder pitching to the kicker who ran it in from the Gator 16 for the winning score.  The Tigers stay undefeated, while Florida suffered its only loss.

The Heisman Watch, part 1:  This week’s title, courtesy of Green Day, “That’s my name and don’t wear it out.”  LSU’s Leonard Fournette.  31 rushes for 180 and 2 TDs.  He also caught 1 for 15 yards.

The Heisman Watch, part 2:  "Derrick Henry has no regard for human life.”-Kevin Scarbinsky, al.com.  Bama’s “Tractor” ran 32 times for 236 and 2 TDs.   Meanwhile, Bama’s DBs pretended to be A&M receivers and intercepted four Aggie passes, three of them run back for TDs, as Bama handed the Ags their first loss.

The Warner Wolf Award goes toIn the FBS:  Kansas State.  If you had the Wildcats and 54, you lost.  OU 55, K. St. 0.  In Div. III:  Grinnell.  If you took Grinnell and 72, you lost.  Final:  Illinois College 83, Grinnell 10.

You took the “Over,” right???, 1st Place:  Harding (Arkansas) 63, SE OK 60.  They combined for 123!  4 OTs!

You took the “Over,” right???,  2nd Place:  Rutgers and Indiana.  They combined for 107.  Scarlet Knights 55, Hoosiers 52.

You took the “Over,” right???,  3rd  Place:   Baylor and West VA.  The Bears and the Mountaineers combined for 100.  Baylor 62, W. VA 38.

You took the “Under,” right?”  Georgia 9, Missouri 6.  All field goals.

Looking ahead to next weekend; Key games:  Ranked teams’ matchups:  The only ranked-against- ranked matchup is #15 Texas A&M @ #24 Ole Miss.
